Registration Overview

Professional Registration

The International Professional Registrar (IPR) provides a structured professional registration framework for professionals working across coaching, counselling, therapeutic support, personal development, behavioural change, wellness and related helping professions.

Professional registration provides the public, employers, organisations and other professionals with a means of identifying professionals who have demonstrated an appropriate level of education, training, professional competence and commitment to ethical practice.

The IPR recognises that professional practice differs significantly across countries, disciplines and scopes of practice. Registration is therefore assessed according to the applicant's qualification, training, experience, professional role and intended scope of practice.

Registration with the IPR is independent professional recognition. It does not replace any statutory registration, licence or other legal requirement applicable in the country or jurisdiction where a professional works.

Where a profession, professional title or activity is regulated by law, professionals remain responsible for ensuring that they hold all registrations, licences, permissions and qualifications required within that jurisdiction.

The Purpose of Registration

IPR registration exists to:

  • promote ethical and responsible professional practice;
  • provide greater transparency for members of the public;
  • recognise appropriate professional education and training;
  • establish clear professional scopes of practice;
  • support continuing professional development;
  • encourage professional accountability;
  • provide mechanisms for complaints and professional conduct;
  • recognise professionals from different professional pathways;
  • promote lifelong professional development;
  • encourage appropriate supervision and reflective practice;
  • support international professional mobility where possible; and
  • provide a publicly searchable method of verifying professional registration.

How to Apply

  1. Choose the appropriate Professional Board.
  2. Select the registration category that matches your education, experience and intended scope.
  3. Create your IPR account.
  4. Complete the application.
  5. Upload the supporting documentation requested for your category.
  6. Pay the applicable registration fee.
  7. Allow the application to proceed through review and verification.
  8. Receive the registration decision.
  9. If approved, receive your IPR Registration Number.
  10. Where applicable, your registration is listed on the IPR Public Register.
  11. Maintain registration through renewal, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and compliance with IPR standards.

Payment submits an application for processing; it does not guarantee approval. Approval depends on meeting the requirements applicable to the selected Professional Board and category.

Registration Is More Than a Payment

IPR registration is not simply a paid listing.

Applicants are assessed against the requirements applicable to their professional registration category.

Registered professionals are expected to maintain the standards associated with their registration throughout the period in which they remain on the IPR Public Register.
