Maintaining Professional Registration
Maintaining IPR registration requires professionals to remain compliant with the standards applicable to their registration category, including annual renewal, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), ethical conduct and any applicable supervision requirements.
Professional registration represents an ongoing commitment rather than a once-off qualification. Registered professionals are responsible for ensuring that they continue to meet IPR professional standards.
To maintain registration, professionals must:
- practise within their recognised competence;
- comply with the IPR Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct;
- comply with Professional Standards;
- comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements;
- maintain appropriate professional boundaries;
- complete required Continuing Professional Development (CPD);
- undertake supervision where required;
- maintain appropriate professional indemnity insurance where applicable;
- maintain accurate registration information;
- notify the IPR of material changes affecting professional practice;
- cooperate with legitimate professional conduct procedures;
- renew registration annually; and
- pay applicable renewal fees.
Continuing Professional Development
Professional learning does not end when a qualification is completed.
Registered professionals are expected to remain current with developments relevant to their profession.
IPR uses a 12-month registration cycle. The applicable Professional Board must state the required CPD points or hours, acceptable activities and evidence requirements for each registration category before renewal is due. IPR does not claim one universal points or hours target where a Board-specific requirement has not been published.
CPD may include:
- formal courses;
- workshops;
- conferences;
- professional seminars;
- webinars;
- supervision;
- peer consultation;
- research;
- professional reading;
- case discussion;
- mentoring;
- reflective practice;
- further qualifications;
- teaching and professional presentations; and
- approved online education.
Professionals must retain evidence of completed activities. The IPR may conduct periodic CPD audits, may allow a documented exemption or adjustment where the applicable Board permits it, and may place registration into INACTIVE status where required CPD or evidence is not completed after the relevant notice and review process.
